While most energy companies hope you forget to renew your electricity contract once your original energy rate expires, we at Rhythm Energy take a different stance. Find out why it’s so important to renew your electricity contract and maintain the price stability you deserve.
Why Renew Your Electricity Contract?
It’s a Texas summer. And it’s hot. Naturally, you’ll use more AC. But imagine getting your first summer bill of the year from your electricity provider, only to find out that your increase in AC usage wasn’t the only driver of your higher bill.
If you think back to when you first signed up with your current Texas electricity provider, you probably signed up on a fixed-term contract that locked in your energy rate for a designated period (typically 12 to 36 months). In order to have continued price stability after your first contract, you are required to renew onto another fixed rate electricity plan when your existing contract comes up for expiration.
But did you know that if you don’t actively renew your electricity contract, your energy provider will transition you over to a month-to-month plan that provides no price protection, with a rate that can fluctuate at the sole discretion of the energy provider? Sounds evil, doesn’t it? (Hint: It is!)
What’s the Secret?
Most electricity companies want this to happen! Why? Because they can increase your electric rates and make more money, hoping you won’t notice the change on your electric bill. So much so that they often send the minimum number of communications to remind consumers like you that your fixed contract is expiring and that it is time to renew.
That’s the bad news. But the good news is that you’re not alone. It happens to thousands of people across Texas.
