If you live in Dallas and experience a power outage, first and foremost, it’s important to remain calm. In order to get answers as to why and for how long, you’ll need to reach out to your Transmission and Distribution Service Provider (TDSP). Dallas is tucked away into North Texas and is the third-largest city in the state, just after Houston and San Antonio. With its population of 1.3 million, it's also the 9th largest city in the US. What makes Dallas unique is that although it was founded on a river, the river doesn't link to the sea, making it the largest inland port city in the country. Like most of Texas, Dallas has a subtropical climate and that means lots of heat and humidity in the summers. Winters are equally humid but are much cooler. And because Dallas is situated on the lower end of the infamous Tornado Alley, it sees its fair share of extreme weather.

Dallas is probably best known for being home to the Dallas Cowboys. This famous football team had some of the best professional athletes in the league, like running back Emmitt Smith, quarterback Troy Aikman, and baseball-player-turned-defensive-back-turned-football-coach Deion Sanders. The Cowboys are based at the AT&T Stadium, the fourth largest NFL stadium, thanks to its maximum capacity of 105,000 people.

This city isn't only about sports, though. Dallas has a thriving arts scene. In fact, it has the largest urban arts district in the country, filled with museums, galleries, antique stores, outdoor murals, and theaters for live performances of local and touring artists. This 68-acre district is one of the biggest draws for residents and tourists alike. Of course, Dallas also has some important national history ties; visit the John F. Kennedy memorial downtown and the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza to learn more about the presidential assassination. Other popular destinations include the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, and the Dallas World Aquarium.

Dallas, along with neighboring Fort Worth, is a massive tech and business hub in the country. In 2019, Dallas ranked at the top of the list for most affordable cities to begin a tech career and the number one most desirable city for Millennials. Dallas' population has increased by 20% in the last decade as new residents take advantage of low housing prices and plentiful jobs, especially in technology and the medical industry.

The renewable energy industry is also experiencing a significant boom in the city. As Texas, and the nation, edges closer to making renewable energy more mainstream, several green energy companies are setting up headquarters in Dallas and bringing wind and solar power to residents. And because Dallas is an electricity-deregulated city, Dallasites can choose their preferred Dallas electricity plans, and they're overwhelmingly choosing renewable energy sources. The government, too, is opting to go green. By using wind energy to power 100% of city electricity consumption, Dallas has been ranked near the top of the Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partnership Local Government List.

Though there are still several traditional, nonrenewable Dallas electricity providers, Dallas residents are pushing for more green choices. And with the plentiful wind and solar farms in the Lone Star State and a wider variety of energy plans, Dallas will likely go completely green in the near future.
