GMC Hummer EV

Eleven years after the discontinuation of the Hummer line, GMC is revitalizing itself through the launch of a GMC Hummer EV. Using the familiar shape and body that demanded attention, the Hummer EV will boldly unite the power and off-roading capacity of a Hummer with the eco-friendly, zero-emission driving of an electric vehicle.

The GMC Hummer EV integrates innovative Ultium battery capability with sophisticated technology to provide a highly immersive driving experience that will keep drivers in control and in constant excitement.

As its answer to the electric pickup trend, GMC will first launch the Hummer EV Pickup. The pickup will be followed a little more than a year later with the release of the GMC Hummer EV SUV. The lines are similar in many ways, but the longer body frame of the pickup grants more space for the electric battery, which will translate to slightly more power for the pickup than the SUV.

Trim Options & Release Schedule

GMC Hummer EV Pickup

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup will first hit the market in Fall 2021 through the release of a limited-availability Hummer EV Edition 1. Already sold out, the Edition 1 stands at a pricey MSRP of $112,595 and touts 3 motors providing up to 1,000 horsepower and up to 11,500 lb-ft of torque. The sheer power of the Hummer EV is put on display with the Watts to Freedom mode which rockets the Hummer EV Pickup from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 3 seconds.

The standard production version of the Edition 1 is called the Hummer EV3X, and it will be available in Fall 2022 at an MSRP of $99,995. This trim comes with 3 motors, up to 830 horsepower, and up to 11,500 lb-ft of torque. Both Edition 1 and the Hummer EV3X will have a range upwards of 300 miles.

The next trim down is the Hummer EV2X, and it will not be released until Spring 2023. It comes at a lower price point with an MSRP of $89,995, and it comes equipped with 2 motors. While still estimated to deliver a full battery range in excess of 300 miles, the Hummer EV2X offers up to 625 horsepower and up to 7,400 lb-ft of torque.

The most economic trim is the Hummer EV2 at an estimated MSRP of $79,995. It will be available come Spring 2024 and will be equipped with 2 motors and an expected driving range upwards of 250 miles. It will have up to 625 horsepower and 7,400 lb-ft of torque.

GMC Hummer EV SUV

Similar to the Hummer EV Pickup, the Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 is already sold out. With an MSRP of $105,595, the Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 is slated to be released in early 2023. The Edition 1 comes equipped with 3 motors and up to 830 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. The other SUV trim options follow the same model variations as the pickup line.

Hummer EV3X — The standard production counterpart for the Edition 1 Hummer EV SUV. At an estimated MSRP of $99,995, it will have 3 motors, deliver an estimated 300+ mile range, and be able to exert up to 830 horsepower and up to 11,500 lb-ft of torque.

Hummer EV2X — Available in Spring 2023 at an estimated MSRP of $89,995, this trim comes with 2 motors and still provides a 300+ mile range. With one less motor than the top trim model, the 2X offers up to 625 horsepower and up to 7,400 lb-ft of torque.

Hummer EV2 — Scheduled for release in conjunction with the Hummer EV2 Pickup, this trim will be available in Spring 2024 for an estimated MSRP of $79,995. With 2 motors, the EV2 has a range of 250+ miles while providing up to 625 horsepower and up to 7,400 lb-ft of torque.

Power & Flexibility of Ultium-powered Hummer EV

The pouch style of Ultium batteries allows GMC to stack batteries both horizontally and vertically. This flexibility in battery packaging helps to optimize space and shape battery configurations to the preferred vehicle design. In addition, the rigidity of the Ultium battery pack serves as an important structural element for the Hummer EV, so while the vehicle body protects the battery, the battery also provides structural support to the electric vehicle.

The upcoming Hummer EV Pickup will be the first to use the Ultium-powered battery technology, but the cost benefits and engineering advantages means that the GMC Hummer EV Pickup will be the first of many to use this Ultium battery technology.

GMC has partnered with LG Chem to manufacture the Ultium batteries in two newly renovated facilities in Ohio and Tennessee.

A Stylish, Sophisticated, & Functional Design

Simplifying options for release, both the pickup and SUV Edition 1 models will come in a single color. The pickup will be released in white with black paint above the pickup’s beltline. The SUV will launch in a Moonshot Green Matte with black paint above the beltline. Later trim releases will have a palette of color options.

The Hummer EV interior comfortably seats five. In fostering sustainability, the Hummer EV intentionally uses faux leather for the steering wheel and seating in order to avoid animal leather. The Lunar Horizon interior profile of the Hummer EV Pickup comes with a stark yet compatible color contrast between blocks of jet black and sky gray, which combine to create a striking cabin decor.

The 13.4 inch touchscreen console provides plenty of space to simultaneously operate a couple of applications. The interface was designed with off-road enthusiasts in mind, and they’ll be able to examine many vehicle features using the touchscreen display. The touchscreen rests above a secondary panel which incorporates toggle switches for easy-to-use climate control functions.

In addition to the touchscreen console, there is another 12.3 inch instrument cluster display which highlights critical car data. The display is highly customizable so that drivers can maintain the viewing option that best suits them.

The Hummer EV Pickup also comes equipped with a MultiPro Tailgate. This essentially combines two tailgates into one, allowing drivers to orient the tailgate in different configurations to take on a range of different functions.

Driving Modes to Master the Road

The Hummer EV will be able to masterfully maneuver through city traffic, confidently climb uneven terrain, and efficiently manage tight spots.

Watts to Freedom — this mode is designed for fun. It utilizes the full capability of the GMC Hummer EV propulsion system for rapid acceleration. Lowering the suspension, stiffening the dampers, and even simulating a high G-force experience with vibrating seats, appropriate stereo sound, and in-cabin graphic displays, the Watts to Freedom Mode is designed to put the driver in an immersive experience as they launch the Hummer EV on a straight paved road from 0 to 60 mph in roughly three seconds.

Extract Mode — the Hummer EV is tackling the concept of exploring tricky terrain. Activating Extract Mode raises the Hummer EV Pickup’s air suspension system approximately 6 inches, giving it an impressive 15.9 inch ground clearance.

Crabwalk — with a 4WD system and four-wheel steering, the Hummer EV can use Crabwalk Mode to turn all 4 wheels in the same direction in order to move laterally without moving forward or backward. This ‘crab’ movement offers extreme flexibility when traversing tricky terrain, and in conjunction with Extract Mode, provides great confidence to drivers wanting to travel unbeaten paths.

Adrenaline Mode — this mode enhances on-road driving performance by unlocking the sizable power from the Hummer EV’s 3 motors. When in Adrenaline Mode, the Hummer EV can go from 0 to 60 mph in four seconds.

Terrain Mode — to drive through steep and technical off-road terrain, Terrain Mode offers the flexibility of using a one-pedal system and regenerative braking so that drivers do not have to manage both acceleration and braking while traversing tricky routes or rock crawling.

Fantastic Features for a Luxury Experience or Adventure Seeking

Whether cruising through the city or adventuring over rugged landscape, the Hummer EV keeps the driver comfortably in control.

Super Cruise — a driver-assist feature enabling hands-free driving. Super Cruise provides acceleration and braking input as well as capability for safe lane switching through methodical adherence to driver lane signaling.

Infinity roof — all trims of the Hummer EV will come with removable roof panels. This is an instrumental feature of the GMC Hummer EV that gives drivers and passengers an open-air driving experience. With the structural support provided by the battery pack, there is no loss of rigidity without the rooftop. Once removed, the panels can be conveniently stored in the Hummer EV’s front trunk space.

Fast charging capability — the Ultium-powered Hummer EV are capable of both Level 2 charging and DC fast charging. The truck model will have an 800-volt battery pack equipped to manage 350 kW fast-charging capacity. Other models will have a 400-volt battery pack with capacity for up to 200 kW fast charging.

Regenerative on Demand — without using the brake, regenerative braking converts the electric motor into a generator by taking the kinetic energy from the vehicle’s motion and storing it in the battery. Doing so naturally slows the Hummer EV down without needing to use the brake. This regenerative feature helps preserve the brakes and improves fuel economy.

4-wheel steering — being able to orient all 4 wheels in the same direction tightens the turning radius of the Hummer EV. The Hummer EV SUV has a turning radius of 35.4 feet while the Hummer EV Pickup has one of 37.1 feet. To put in perspective, the smaller Mustang Mach-E has a turning radius of 38.1 feet.

Off-road navigation — in connection with the myGMC app, the Hummer EV’s navigation system recognizes trails and provides navigation for off-road routes in addition to the more traditional paved road options. In addition, the navigation maps out charging locations so that electric vehicle owners can set out for long drives with confidence, whether they want to stick to pavement or go off the beaten path.

Power Station System — with all the power provided by the vehicle, the GMC Hummer EV can function as a 120 volt power station (3 kW) for appliances or even as a 240 volt charging station (6 kW) for another electric vehicle. This can come in handy for camping trips or even as an emergency backup power source in the case of a blackout.

The GMC Hummer EV combines immense power with incredible maneuverability. Coming in at a steep price (and already sold out for the initial Edition 1 release), enthusiasts will have to wait for later releases of standard trim models.

Whether you’re a speed demon, an off-road explorer, or a tech enthusiast, the GMC Hummer EV casts a wide net of interest for enthusiastic drivers. Bringing together an exciting blend of material engineering and technical innovation, the Hummer EV line will usher in a new era of super trucks.

Just as GMC is committing itself to electrification, EV owners now have the option to obtain their energy from clean, sustainable sources.
