If you live in Coppell and experience a power outage, first and foremost, it’s important to remain calm. In order to get answers as to why and for how long, you’ll need to reach out to your Transmission and Distribution Service Provider (TDSP). For general inquiries or service requests, call TNMP at 1-888-866-7456. Unfortunately, electricity companies like Rhythm, Reliant or TXU have no control over power outages.

Coppell, Texas is part of the Dallas metropolitan area and is home to over 41,000 people across 14 square miles that are dotted by parks, streams, and trees. Its location close to the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport has driven its growth from an insignificant farming community to an affluent suburb.

A community has existed on this site since the 1840s, but not always under that name. According to the Coppell Historical Society, the town was known variously as Gibbs, Grapevine Springs, and Bethel, before Coppell residents finally settled on that name in the late 1800s. This was in honor of George Coppell, a New York banker who financed much of the local railway line. Originally only the railway station was called Coppell Depot, but over time it came to represent the whole town, until it was officially designated as the town name in 1890. Coppell Depot stood until World War II, when the original structure was replaced with a smaller one, which was in turn eventually removed to a private property when the days of the passenger train were over.

The town was incorporated in 1955, but it remained a small farming community up until the arrival of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport close to the southwest of town in 1974. This led to a period of explosive growth in Coppell's population, demographics, and economy, and by the year 2000 all the available residential land in Coppell was completely developed. In 2002, with the deregulation of the Texas energy market, Coppell energy plans became some of the most affordable in the nation.

Now adjacent to a major international travel hub, the economy of Coppell is largely based on shipping and distribution. The southwestern part of the city has a growing warehouse and commercial district that takes advantage of its proximity to the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport for distribution. Several major international corporations have regional headquarters in Coppell, including Uline, Nokia, Amazon, The Container Store, and IBM.

Outdoor recreation has a major place in Coppell's culture, thanks to its very active Parks and Recreation Division. This division has maintained the city's designation as a Tree City USA for over twenty years. They also manage the very extensive 116-acre parks and trail system, which has grown by 25% since 2015. This system is also connected to the greater Dallas/Fort Worth trail systems, creating a greater continuity between these communities.

Coppell has many notable parks that are watered by several natural streams, including the historical Grapevine Park (which dates to 1936) and Grapevine Springs. There is one small body of water within the city, North Lake, and another several miles to the west, the much larger Grapevine Lake and Preserve, as well as to north, at Lewisville Lake.
