If you live in Azle and experience a power outage, first and foremost, it’s important to remain calm. In order to get answers as to why and for how long, you’ll need to reach out to your Transmission and Distribution Service Provider (TDSP). For general inquiries or service requests, call Oncor at 1-888-313-4747. Unfortunately, electricity companies like Rhythm, Reliant or TXU have no control over power outages.

Azle is the gateway to Eagle Mountain Lake, which lies directly to the east of the city. The lake was created in the early 1930s by the damming of the West Fork of the Trinity River. This lake spans 8,694 acres and is nestled within a series of low hills and bluffs. Its western shore boasts several beautiful lake-front homes. On the opposite shore of the lake to the north is the 400-acre Eagle Mountain Park, which offers an abundance of trails and scenic vistas to Azle residents.

At the southern tip of the lake, between Azle and Forth Worth, is the 3,000-acre Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge, one of the largest city-owned nature parks in the United States. The Nature Center has managed to preserve a small slice of pre-urbanization Texas between two cities, overlooking the lake on one side and skirted by the bust Highway 199 on the other. This carefully managed habitat is home to deer, bison, alligators, and many bird species. The Reserve also has over 20 miles of hiking trails for visitors to enjoy the green space, the animals, and the exercise.

Other nearby parks include Ash Creek Park, the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, and Lake Mineral Wells State Park. Azle's proximity to so many green spaces gives the city a rural feel and character, despite how close it is to the heavy urbanization of Dallas/Forth Worth.

The sheltering hills and abundant streams in this area are what drew the original settlers, including the town's namesake. James Azle Stewart, and his wife, Mary E. Fowler Steward, were the first recorded settlers in 1846, but they were soon followed by others. In 1881, the settlement got its own post office which was acquired and run by a man named O'Bar, who lent his name to the community for a time. But in 1883 James Stewart donated land to create proper townsite, and he requested that the town be known as Azle from that point forth.

Azle grew slowly but steadily through the rest of the 1800s and into the 1900s, with agriculture and dairy farming making up the bulk of its economy. By the 1830s, however, Azle and its surrounding countryside were outfitted with electricity, and many of the fields were converted into housing developments while manufacturing became more important to the city economy. In 2002, the Texas energy market was deregulated, and Azle electricity plans became available in a range of affordable prices.
