Origins
Dancehall
(Also known as Reggae deejay music and Dancehall Reggae)

Its birthplace: Jamaica. Its period of origin: late 1970s, 1980s. It has roots in Ska, Reggae (roots), Rocksteady and Mento, among others. It has a continuous metamorphosis of its dominant styles, which include Rub a Dub and Ragga. Among its main features are: deejays/ artistes singing or rhythmically chanting over a popular rhythm/ riddim; a heavy bass line and the use of technology to produce digitized rhythms/riddims. When you add of those clues together, you get a worldwide phenomenon known as Dancehall.
