Calypso (Name said to be either derived from the Hausa word and music form �Kaiso� or the abbreviation of the term �Carib or Cairi songs� by the French settlers in Trinidad to �Cairiso�)
One of the most famous and popular genres of Caribbean music is that of Calypso. The first known Calypso recordings were made in 1912 and by the 1940s this musical art form came to be associated with the Caribbean.
